Didn't Just Happen Yesterday

Set my table for two
Knowing you would never come, would you?
Now I've got the space I always wanted.

I try to write it all down
The things I did to let you down
I can't assemble words or thoughts
But what I've got is the memory of your voice

You said It just didn't happen yesterday,
It's happened all along.

I'm reading shakespeare to a clock
Trying to make it stop or disappear.
And now I'm finally lookin' in the mirror.

Can't be blamed for being young,
I was only having fun with you.
Then there comes a time when
When you cross the line,
And everything's no longer fine.

It just didn't happen yesterday,
It's happened all along.

Lookin' in the past isn't really the nicest solution
And lookin' inside takes a long, long time
Well I've been thinking for awhile and I can say without any confusion:
The blame is not all mine.

It's five o'clock, the streets are jammed
But you are warm inside my hands
Let's try to pick it up where we started.
